Opportunities to Give

We thought we shouldn't launch this blog without explaining what's on it - namely, the 'Opportunities to Serve' and 'Opportunities to Give' sections down the side. If you've read the first post below this one (and please do!), the first section should make complete sense. You can volunteer for a service opportunity by posting a comment (currently on the 'private' setting - no-one will see your comment/s besides us) or by sending an email...

The second section takes a little more explanation. Currently, the way CCCB's offering / finances work is that our offerings on Sunday (or by EFT - again, comment or email if you'd like to give regularly by EFT) go to a common pool and are distributed for each need according to the annual CCCB Budget, set by our Church Council and approved by CCCB members at each annual AGM. Through the course of the year, other specific needs within each congregation are raised for Council's consideration and approval, before funding is channelled towards them.

Council has approved an alternative method of meeting 'sundry' financial needs, namely, the raising of funds within each congregation, apart from the common pool. The benefit of this method of giving is specificity - specific needs providing specific opportunities for your specific giving with specific results. What we've observed is that there are many brothers and sisters within our congregation who are only too eager to be generous with the money that God has entrusted to them. How this encourages us! We've also observed (especially within the context of YF) that when God's people know what it is they're giving towards, they give more deliberately, more purposefully, and often more generously.

However, this method of giving is not supposed to detract from giving to the common pool; we are responsible to and for our brothers and sisters beyond SLE! But again, it can increase the incentive to give when you know exactly what project you're giving to, and you get to see the end result benefitting our 'home' and our 'mission', right before your eyes.

So, to the right are listed some specific 'Opportunities to Give' that we would love you to take up. The best way to respond is to put money in a labelled envelope in the offering bag on Sunday. If you'd prefer to give electronically, comment or email us for the relevant CCCB account details.

And if you want to give in ways other than money, most of the financial needs come with the need for manpower to install or make use of them, so you can line up to give in this way too!

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

2 Corinthians 9:12-13
